Much uncertainty surrounds Brexit and information may change says Citizens Advice Maidenhead and Windsor. Currently, if you’re from the EU, European Economic Area (EEA – which includes EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Switzerland, and you wish to apply for Settled Status in the UK, you and your family will need to apply by 30 June 2021. If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, the deadline for applying will be 31 December 2020, and you will need to be living in the UK before it leaves the EU to apply.
You can do this by applying to the EU Settlement Scheme for ‘settled status’ or ‘pre-settled status’, or by applying for British citizenship. It is free to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. You won’t need to apply to stay in the UK after Brexit if you already have British or Irish citizenship.
You will have the right to live and work in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme, and continue to be eligible for public services, such as healthcare and schools, public funds and pensions.
You will need your ID verified, and RBWM is one of the local authorities supporting this part of the process. For enquiries or to make an appointment contact RBWM on 01628 796422 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. This will cost £14 (including VAT).
